The South Dakota Public Assurance Alliance's (SDPAA) commitment is to form a local government risk pool, to provide for joint or cooperative action by members relative to their financial and administrative resources for the purpose of providing risk management services and risk sharing facilities to the members and to the members' employees, and to defend and protect any member of the SDPAA against liability.

The SDPAA was designed to offer South Dakota public entities liability and property coverage at a cost which remains stable from year to year. Since its formation in 1986, SDPAA has met these goals.

The SDPAA is owned by public entities who are its members. The program's philosophy differs from that of a traditional insurance program in that the SDPAA is responsible to and loyal to its members.

The SDPAA has grown steadily since its formation, making it the largest property and liability public entity pool in South Dakota.
